Naphthalene
Naphthalene is a volatile, white crystalline solid.
Uses: carbamate insecticides, surface active agents and resins, as a dye intermediate, as a synthetic tanning agent, as a moth repellent, and in miscellaneous organic chemicals.
Found in: moth balls, carpet cleaners, toilet bowl deodorizers.
Effects: Acute: dizziness, sleepiness, nausea and disorientation. Chronic: suspected carcinogen, liver damage, damage to the central nervous system and red blood cells.
