Kitchen Gardeners sent out an article on Purslane, and it reminded me of my own introduction to this lovely plant.
My friends Jose and Cecilia were in front of my house several years ago, and so happy to see this succulent all over my garden. Although I did not share their enthusiasm at first, I quickly learned to change my attitude. They foraged and came up with a grocery bag FULL of food for their family.
Jose assured me it was safe to eat, in fact a delicious treat in his native Oaxaca, Mexico. Now, I add it to my salads, and have had it fried.
